Deepavali Legiyam! Every year, on Diwali, we would line up after lunch to get our dose of this medicinal preparation from our grandmother. Absolutely yummy sweet memories. 🙂
What do you do when you have a whole festival just for feasting? You prepare a medicine for better digestion, along with all the amazing food, because everybody is going to overeat!
The traditional Deepavali Legiyam or Diwali Lehyam recipe calls for this concoction of spices to be cooked in ghee. We have substituted it with coconut or almond paste. This means that you will need to eat the legiyam the same day that you prepare it – and that you will be all the healthier for it! If you wish to keep it for a couple of days, avoid using nuts.
